Geography

Students study Geography at KS3 as part of Humanities and KS4 study Geography at GCSE.

KS3 Geography topics:

KS4 Geography topics:

Students follow the WJEC GCSE ‘A’ syllabus, which includes a combination of two controlled assessments and two end of year exams.

  • Water
  • Development

  • Climate change
  • Population

Unit 2; Optional themes (x3) (exam)

  • Weather & climate
  • Living things
  • Tourism

 

Controlled assessments

  • Fieldwork enquiry (10%); An investigation into peoples’ perceptions of climate change.
  • Decision making / problem solving task (15%); A report analysing whether or not the EU membership should be reduced/enlarged, which includes the candidate’s reasoned and justified decision.

Assessment

KS3 students are assessed at the end of each unit with an end of topic test. 

KS4 students are assessed during unit work, through exam practice questions, in addition to teacher assessment.

Enrichment and Extracurricular

Geography trips may be run each year and there are cross-curricula links with both Outdoor Education and Science.
